ESMA launched a Call for Evidence on the potential use of tokenised collateral by central counterparties (CCPs), inviting stakeholder contributions by 15 January 2027. ESMA is seeking evidence on whether, and under what conditions, tokenised forms of collateral could be used safely and effectively by EU CCPs.
ESMA published an opinion clarifying supervisory expectations for crypto-asset services involving stablecoins that do not comply with MiCA, stating that MiCA-authorised CASPs should cease providing such services in the EU. CoinDesk and Cointelegraph report that platforms were given three months to address existing exposures.
ESMA responded to the European Commission's consultation on the MiCA review, recommending changes to simplify the framework while improving investor protection and addressing DeFi, staking and lending. The Defiant reports ESMA also wants to bar crypto firms from MiCA-licensable services involving noncompliant stablecoins.
